Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck) was an American actor and singer who performed for over 40 years. A torch singer renowned for her powerful, sultry contralto singing, London recorded over thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her rendition of "Cry Me a River", a song she first introduced in her debut album. In addition to the musical notice, London was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in 1974 for her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency!. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her professional career began acting as an actress as she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's career in acting lasted 35 years. It began in 1944 , with roles in movies. The films featured roles for the female lead in many westerns. London also starred alongside Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), John Cassavetes and Robert Taylor in Saddle the Wind (1958), Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) as well as Robert Mitchum with The Wonderful Country (1959). In the mid-50s she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional music career. Her final studio album in the year 1969, but achieved continuing success playing the female lead role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) in which she was a co-star along with Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband also produced the show.
